Not Everybody
© Julie Ruffell
A red light washes over you
Another day living with Hades
You find your comfort
With the bathroom tiles
While your only friend is hurting you
'Cause not everybody
Wears their scars on the inside
Your skin's a roadmap of pain
While everyone is living
You're quietly going insane
Everybody around you is dancing
While you're just trying to survive
They walk around in their bathing suits
As your sleeves grow longer each time
You're living everyday as a lie
No one knows who you are inside
You know while it helps you get through
At the same time it slowly begins to kill you
But you can't stop what you've always done
You just can't seem to face the truth
'Cause not everybody
Wears their scars on the inside
Your skin's a roadmap of pain
While everyone is living
You're quietly going insane
The red light is a comfort
The burning heat warms your insides
But it locks you in its deadly embrace
Like the carnivorous teeth of a lion
And no one can see its eating you alive
Because they've bought all your lies
'Cause not everybody
Wears their scars on the inside
Your skin's a roadmap of pain
While everyone is living
You're quietly going insane
And no one can imagine the pain of your skin
If they see, they don't understand
Or they only get the wrong kind of pain
They can't even see that you're drowning
So there's no rescue from this red pool
It's in here you will die
'Cause not everybody
Wears their scars on the inside
Your skin's a roadmap of pain
While everyone is living
You're quietly going insane
You're quietly going insane
