One Last Time

© Julie Ruffell

I wake up, get dressed
Play a computer game
Things seem so normal
But today isn't the same
I don't bother with breakfast
Don't need nourishment today
I believe I've found the answer
I believe I've found my way

Today isn't like yesterday
Today won't be once more
Today changes the rules
Today I go through a door
The truth I have found
I don't believe it's a crime
So today is the last day
For everything, it's one last time

All these years seem far too long
Though there's very little I've done
Because everyday I have lost
I have never won
I go to work
But I just don't care
Today and tomorrows don't matter
Of the finality I'm aware

Today isn't like yesterday
Today won't be once more
Today changes the rules
Today I go through a door
The truth I have found
I don't believe it's a crime
So today is the last day
For everything, it's one last time

I've spent too long spreading lies
The truth in me has awoken
This life is not worth much
I can't say I'm not broken
Give me my freedom
Take away this pointless life
I return home from work
I hold the sharp knife

Today isn't like yesterday
Today won't be once more
Today changes the rules
Today I go through a door
The truth I have found
I don't believe it's a crime
So today is the last day
For everything, it's one last time

What song shall be the last I hear?
What will my last words be?
Will I write a letter good-bye?
Shall I let people know me?

Today isn't like yesterday
Today won't be once more
Today changes the rules
Today I go through a door
The truth I have found
I don't believe it's a crime
So today is the last day
For everything, it's one last time
