I Am a Woman

© Julie Ruffell

I am a woman
Not a piece of glass
I will not break
If you speak harsh tones
I will not shatter
If things get tough

I am a woman
And I am a warrior
An Amazon
Standing tall
Against those who would harm me
With those who are like me
I will brace dark shadows
Since evil does not hold me

I will walk among
My sisters
Or alone should I choose
But I will not fear
What are merely shadows
Never forming

I am a woman
And I would rather die
As I am
Then live
As I am not
Stand with me Amazons
Reclaim the night
The streets
The homes
You are women
Stones
Yet always soft if you need to be
