Child of the Media
© Julie Ruffell
Babies in cribs still cry for their moms
But children who see and hear
Experience from the world of media
More than the world within walls
I am a child of the media
I learned my lessons and views
Not from the teachings of my parents
But from songs, tv, and interviews
A warrior taught me
To leave the past behind
A singer taught me
"Only kindness matters"
A clone taught me
We can choose to be
More than we were created for
I learned tolerance
From the internet
And from there I learned
Acceptance and understanding too
Chatting across the world
I learned people are people
Doesn't matter what they look like or do
I am a child of the media
A poet taught me
To look beyond
A sufferer of great loss
Taught me forgiveness
A commander taught me
There is always redemption
Our teachers are the writers
The bards who have always spun the tales
They take the form of songs, books, tv, movies
And other sources beyond imagined
They teach us beyond
What a parent alone could teach
They correct wrong lessons
And raise us above
And I'm going to live by my lessons
