Crystal Dancers/Diamond Soldiers

© Julie Ruffell

The sky releases tiny forms
They swirl gently in the wind
Gathering together to dance in union
Skipping on a light breeze
Swirling around as they dance
With grace they come to rest
Into welcoming Nature's hands
Cradled in wooden branches
Or resting in seas of green
Unfortunate crystalline dancers crash hard
Dashed against the unyielding concrete

Angered by this destruction of peaceful dancers
The sky rips open and the armies charge
Diamond soldiers crash to earth and hunker down
Claiming the grey land with their brilliant white
As suddenly, the sky decides it is not a day for war
And sends the dancers again, the soldiers silent

I capture some dancers in my gloved hand
Admiring their crystal beauty, their delicate forms
After, I release them, on a soft breath of air
Or crush them with my callous human hands
