I've Laid Down to Die

© Julie Ruffell

I've settled here
Lain down here
Staring at what you've left behind
There was once music
But now, only silence
I can't escape the feel
Of your blood
There are no colours
Except that red, that blood red
The colour you dressed in when you fell
Two souls reunited
Who believes in that junk?
But I knew you
As though I knew you before
You gave me some light
In a world far too gray
Then it killed you
Took you
I let it take you
It clings to me, while your cold hands
Rest on your cold chest
Beneath that earth

I've settled here
Lain down here
Staring at what you've left behind
There's no motivation for me
In this silence
