Giving Thanks

On this day
I am supposed to give thanks
But I can't help but think
About all the worries
War
World hunger
And all that pain
Why focus on
My little life?
But on this day
I am supposed to think
And figure out the things
I am thankful for
Maybe there's no need to think...

The sun
Or the moon
The green trees blowing in the wind
The gentle falling snow
A beautiful voice
Against a beautiful note
Or simple things
Like a smile
Or a huge from one you love
The beauty of a picture
Or the power of a word
The kindness people can share

But for me
If I have to say
What I am most grateful for
Then I have to say
The friends who stand at my side
Since there is no one I love more
